NOISE LEGISLATION IN CATALONIA

This is some of the most important noise legislation in Catalonia:

Noise is an important source of problems in our modern society. In recent years, multiple legislation has appeared to protect citizens from noise pollution at national, regional and municipal level, among which we would like to highlight:

Law 16/2002 of June 28 and regulations

Law 16/2002 of June 28, 2002, on protection against noise pollution, also known as "the noise law". This legislative text establishes important criteria and control measures in Catalonia, among which the following stand out:

  • Establishment of an acoustic sensitivity map, with the criteria to be followed for the protection of people against noise in each part of the territory. Three types of zones are established: Zone A (requiring maximum protection against noise), Zone B (zone with medium noise tolerance) and Zone C (zone with high noise perception).
  • Maximum immission levels: maximum tolerable noise in protected areas (rooms in dwellings, centers and public areas, etc.).
  • It also establishes the procedures by which noise must be evaluated.

Decree 176/2009, which approves the regulation on Law 17/2002.

Other legislation on acoustics:

Decree 245/2005 of November 8, 2005, which establishes the criteria for the elaboration of acoustic quality maps.
