Privacy and security in navigation
In our activity as computer engineers, we frequently encounter cases of privacy vulnerability. Even if this is not "harmful" (such as viruses or Trojans), we may be interested in maintaining our privacy for our own interests or principles. Some objectives may be:
- Maintain our security in visits to compromised websites, such as Warez portals, downloads or exchanges of links or adult content.
- Avoidtracking of our activities by search engines and portals.
- Avoid leaving traces of what we do and/or have visited on our computers.
- Avoid hosting compromising or sensitive information (passwords, digital signatures, etc.) on our computers.
Here we present, as a decalogue, some basic tips.
Private browsing criteria
In any visit to websites in which we are interested in privacy or may be dangerous in your visit is convenient:
- If possible, use a Sandbox.
- Use the private browsing option.
- Do not enter passwords or register.
- Do not share personal information.
- Do not performcompromising searchesor visits while logged in to Google or other search engines (Google does not need to know about your private hobbies).
- Do not install software or APP's downloaded from disreputable websites.
In the event that it is necessary to register in a committed site, please do so:
- With a different email and identity than usual.
- With a specific password (there are lists of passwords sold on the black market).
- It is not recommended to make payments. If payments are made, use a virtual card with a limited balance.
Use a sandbox
A sandbox is a program that allows you to isolate the execution of other programs within the operating system by preventing them from running:
- The program executed inside it writes freely to the system's memory disks and/or storage devices.
- Preventing the executed program from interfering with other programs in the system.
- After execution, all browsing data, downloads, cookies or possible viruses and/or Trojans can be easily deleted.
There are many "sandbox" programs. Many antivirus programs have their own, to test the operation of software whose reliability is unknown or to add extra security to your browsing.
A free one that works well with many applications, including all major browsers is "sandboxie" and can be downloaded here:
It is very easy to use. It allows you to easily run the Internet browser.
